Job description: The Technical Officer for Agri-business and Microenterprise (TOAM) is based in San Diego, CA and provides technical support to program staff at the International Office (IO) in San Diego and in field programs in 12 countries in the area of income generation, microcredit, and rural development.  In close collaboration with the Vice President for Technical Services and Program Development and other technical and programmatic staff at IO and in the field, the TOAM will provide technical and programmatic leadership and strategic direction-setting for the organization in agribusiness and micro-enterprise .  The TOAM will bolster PCI’s capacity in planning and executing microfinance, micro-enterprise and agricultural commercialization programs.  In addition to technical assistance , other responsibilities include strategic programmatic development  through building and strengthening partnerships, raising PCI’s profile, donor cultivation, program design and proposal development.  The TOAM will provide strategic guidance and oversight for all agri-business and micro-enterprise efforts of the organization and will work to ensure the fiscal viability, growth and development of PCI’s efforts in this cross-cutting technical area.

Qualifications and skills required:

·        MA, MS, MBA, MPH or equivalent advanced degree in a relevant field

·        Five years relevant professional experience, including specific experience in managing the development and support of small enterprises, microfinance service delivery, small business education programs and agricultural/rural development training and support in developing countries  (Latin American experience preferred)

·        Five years relevant overseas experience

·         Demonstrated quantitative skills, particularly in conducting financial analyses and designing impact studies

·         Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, including ability to effectively communicate across cultures

·         Excellent program development and grant writing experience

·         Experience or familiarity with US government grant proposal preparation and regulations preferred

·         Experience and ability in capacity building in his/her respective technical area

·        Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·         Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish required

·         Computer literacy; familiarity with word-processing, spread sheet and data base software required

Planning Alliance is a Canadian-owned firm of urban planners, engineers,  and environmental and social scientists that is based in Toronto and has  practiced in the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean on a continuous basis since 1978.  Our company provides a wide range of services including: socio-economic analysis, community development, urban and rural  lanning, infrastructure and housing design, and project and construction management.  Planning Alliance has served as Executing Agency for the Canadian International Development Agency, the World Bank, and for numerous companies in the development and mining sectors.

We have an immediate need for a Project Manager for a major social/land development project in Ghana.  A senior social scientist, lawyer, architect, planner, or engineer with at least 10 years experience in urban planning related projects and project management, and with direct experience in a resettlement project, is preferred. Relevant experience in Africa would be considered an asset.

The Project Manager’s duties will include:

1. Managing the implementation of a Resettlement/Relocation Project comprising the following major components: negotiating with up to 200 affected households regarding their potential resettlement or relocation; planning, designing and constructing new housing and farms; undertaking socio-economic studies; providing supportive economic and social development programs; and, facilitating the eventual management and operation of the new community.

2. Managing Planning Alliance local staff (already in place), including a Community Development Officer, Architect, and Engineer, as well as 15 local Ghanaian staff, comprising lawyers, property evaluators, agronomists and surveyors.  Men and women are equally represented on staff.

Contract length: One-year minimum, with a possible extension for an additional one to three years.

Salary: Generous US dollar salary, commensurate with experience, exclusive of benefits and major expenses.

14) Team Leader and Gender Technical Specialist, EQUATE Project /

BACKGROUND:

The EQUATE Project at MSI is currently recruiting candidates to field a team to provide technical assistance to USAID/Jamaica in devising ways for addressing gender issues in programming inputs for the new education strategy development. The assignment will be 7-weeks in length, including 3-4 weeks in country, beginning end of August/early September.

1. THE TEAM LEADER POSITION:

The Team Leader must have a Masters degree in Education, a minimum of ten years experience in education research and excellent interpersonal skills.  In addition, the consultant should be knowledgeable of gender differences and issues in the Caribbean region, and should possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

-  The Team Leader will be responsible for coordinating the activities related to the report.

MADRE, an international women’s human rights organization, is looking for individuals and groups to volunteer with K’inal Antzetik, our sister organization in Chiapas, Mexico.  K’inal Antzetik is an organization of Indigenous women, working to defend their communities and win access to health care, political participation and justice for violations committed by the Mexican army and paramilitary forces.

Volunteers will paint, plant organic gardens and provide administrative assistance as K’inal prepares to open a newly built training center for Indigenous women.  The center will offer trainings on women’s human rights, the collective rights of Indigenous Peoples, women’s sexual and reproductive health, women’s political participation and food security.

The land around the center will be used for trainings in organic gardening and other skills necessary to promote the sustainable development and economic sovereignty of Indigenous communities.  In order to meet these goals, K’inal needs the support of volunteers.

Volunteers can begin as soon as possible, with a minimum time commitment  of one week.  The center is located just outside San Cristobal, the  capital city of Chiapas.

Southern Partner: Vivre Mieux has been working since 1994 to support suitable and sustainable development of communities in the Plateaux region of southwestern Togo.
